Redfield Rifle Scopes
In 1909, John Hill Redfield opened the Redfield Gun Sight Company where he designed equipment for hunters and shooters. The rifle scopes the company produced were designed and trusted for their accuracy and reliable sighting options. Although the company grew, it closed its doors in 1988 in Denver, Colorado but still left a legacy of good rifle scopes behind it and a good outlook ahead!

In 2008, Leupold & Stevens, Inc. purchased the brand name of Redfield Rifle Scopes and all the intellectual design property that came along with that acquisition. While Redfield is not in the business of making rifle scopes anymore, many are still available for sale and some shooters and hunters still prefer them. If you do and want to purchase one, it’s important to note that these scopes don’t have the manufacturer warranty so it’s a “let the buyer beware” situation. There is good news for Redfield rifle scope owners however, there are currently two facilities that can repair your rifle scopes—ABO USA Inc (305-859-2010) and Iron Sight (918-445-2001).
Redfield rifle scopes were once known as the best in the industry and when the Meade Company stepped in late in 2008, four Redfield rifle scope models are now being manufactured in Georgia. Included in this line-up are the Golden Five Star, the Tracker, the Widefield, and the Illuminator. All of these scopes are designed for all levels of shooters and budget constraints.
The Widefield scopes have an oval ocular and an objective lens which allows the hunter to mount the scope lower on the rifle. This gives the shooter a much wider view than they can achieve with smaller scopes. The design is a little off-beat but this Widefield scope offers accuracy and delivers. On close range hunts the Widefield produces 30% larger images and is built with high quality pieces and a rugged aluminum alloy tube that is great in all weather conditions.
The one piece main tube design for rifle scopes was invented by Redfield in 1982 and is now common in scope manufacturing. Along with Meade engineers they improved on the idea developing a one piece scope tube that is end-to-end and includes an eyepiece housing. The erector tube on all Meade/Redfield scopes eliminates the gimbal/biasing spring and is now equipped with a patented erector tube that attaches to the scope body giving the shooter increased flexibility.
With this design the shooter gets an even pressure from end to end and a consistent optical path. Their windage and elevation adjustments are precise and elimates the need for tapping on the turret for adjustments. They are less sensitive to recoil stress and again does eliminate 30% of the of the parts used in earlier tub construction. We all know that fewer parts mean the fewer things that can go wrong and that makes the Meade/Redfield line ideal for all hunters.
With finger adjustments and the increase in windage and elevation these rifle scopes create additional room within the scope body—up to 17% greater than the competitor’s scopes. The saving of the Redfield design and the Meade engineering is sure to be a favorite of shooters for many years to come on the new Meade line up of Redfield rifle scopes.

HI I have a fixed 12X Redfield scope with adjustable Parallax on the left side and outside windage & elevation knobs I don’t have the caps S # L14979 Is there any way to get the instruction manual for it I don’t know how many clicks for W & E or MOA I have it on a Sako 243. I bought them both about 1968. Does the scope have any value it is mint. Could I sell it to get one as good or better? If I can’t get paper work. Thanks Irv
