 Rifle Scope Mil dot Reticle

Rifle Scope Mil dot Reticle main objective is to estimate the range to target. If the firearm user knows of the approximate size and length of the target they have in their sight, the mildots quickly add up in a reticle pattern and this is how the distance is estimated.

Scopes that use Mildot reticles are fairly easy to understand once you get familiar with them. Let's understand reticle first. It's the crosshair or point you aim at when you use a riflescope firearm. To use one, you have to properly focus it to fit your eye's view. This takes a bit of work on your part, and this scope does call for you to implement more of you ability to estimate and do the math in order to help the scope work for you.

The Mildot scoped all call for you to find the estimated distance to your target and set the magnification to the appropriate power. The company or whoever produced it will tell you what the standard is to set it at. You have to be able to be able to estimate the round about height of what you are aiming at.

The mildot reticle is fairly complicated in looks and if you are using a scope that is like this, then pretty much your whole target can be consumed by little dots. These kinds of scopes are hardly ever used much in present day as the more laser oriented scopes of present day.

Mildot reticle scopes are complicated and hard to understand and that is why they have never and will probably never hold in common ground in the world of ballistics or just plain hunting purposes. There just isn't that great of need for this scope and what it was designed for. This is not to say that there isn't a use for these types of scopes, it just that more people pot for the more advance technology laden scopes that are able to take much of the guess work out of the shot for you.

However, one can still find use and employ the scope into their sport or hunting endeavors as most of these scopes are lightweight and quite functional. They have a wide field of view, precise and deadly accuracy, easy focusing knob, water and shockproof. The mildot reticle can pinpoint and determine the length of an actual target making the shooter be able to take that all important shot with ease and deadly accuracy.

Mildot reticles are primarily made for the military and long rage shooters or snipers but, their purpose can be served for just average person that likes to target shoot. When using one of these scopes, one must be able to estimate the target's size and from what distance they are from the shooter. You have to be able to read heights an distances in milliradians, which is kind of complicated.

Once you get the feel for it and know what you are doing then everything will just come to you in a snap. There is in truth mil-dot mathematics and you have to become familiar with this type of math in order to use this kind of scope It is a math that deals with two basic formulas, the height of a target, and the distance to the target. All the number of milliradians will be read from the reticle of the scope.
